healthy diet

June 30th, 2009

Questions about healthy eating habits, specific diets and providing healthy nutrition for children dominated the Deseret Morning News/Intermountain Health Care Hotline Saturday. Registered dietitians Deon Gines and Tracy Herrmann, both of LDS Hospital, talked to callers about their diets and provided healthy suggestions for better eating habits. One caller was concerned that because of the foods she chose to eat, she was following a low-carb diet that was unhealthy. Gines told her what foods were high in carbohydrates and then suggested that she incorporate a variety of foods into her diet. “Its so nice to talk to somebody who actually wants to change their diet and help their family,” Gines said.

dental implants sydney

Dr. Rodney P. Steffen had been a dentist for four years in the U.S. Air Force when he opened a private dental practice in 1987 in Oklahoma City. He had a practice by himself until Dr. Kathy DeHart joined the practice in 1990. Steffen knew it made economic sense for more than one dentist to be operating out of one building. “Two dentists can work in a building and pay the same rent as one dentist,” he said. So Steffen put that knowledge to use in his practice. That one-dentist practice Steffen started 1987 has now expanded Community Dental Health Centers to three locations and 12 dentists, with a fourth location scheduled to open in mid-August in Moore.

life coaching melbourne

June 30th, 2009

To be both effective and fulfilled in our personal and professional lives today, we need to be learning continuously about ourselves, other people, and the many facets of our businesses and our careers. You can do that through many avenues. One method is life coaching. There are many approaches to coaching. Organizational coaching seeks to improve performance, productivity, or teamwork and views the coach as the expert who motivates and gives advice. There are specialty coaches who focus on sales, business, or career. Life coaching looks at a persons whole life to assess the level of fulfillment and balance, and assists the person in discovering who she is and who she wants to be. Life coaching focuses on moving toward a desired future, rather than focusing on the past. Life coaching helps the person integrate the multiple facets of life and live congruently in the many roles he plays. One model of life coaching is Co-active Coaching which has four “cornerstones”: 1) the client is naturally creative, resourceful and whole; 2) the coaching addresses the clients whole life; 3) the agenda comes from the client; 4) the relationship is a designed alliance. The most important step in a new coaching relationship is to develop the alliance. From the beginning, the client experiences the coach as someone who believes in him and is committed to helping him create the life and work he desires. The power of the coaching process resides in this partnership.
A recruitment drive is on for more life coaches to help people achieve personal and professional goals. Life coaching is a growing industry and more coaches are needed in Gateshead. Jonathan Jay, of the Coaching Academy, said: “Research shows most people want to improve at least one aspect of their lives, and this is where a trained, objective coach comes in.”

Whether you have long, luxuriant locks or a short, sleek do, a healthy head of hair always looks good. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) offers advice on dos and donts when it comes to taking care of your tresses. While an itchy, scaly scalp usually doesnt cause hair loss, scratching can weaken and permanently damage hair over time. The AAD recommends that you see a dermatologist if you have a persistent condition.

VAN NUYS, Calif. — High-priced, clip-on hair extensions are becoming a hot item in drug stores.Despite the high cost of these hair accessories — Revlons Clipit retails for $49.95 and Rene of Paris The Hair Company Clip-On Hair Extension sells for $29.95 — women have been snapping them up, according to retailers and manufacturers.”For three years, the Vogues and Harpers Bazaars of the world have been commenting on hair accessories, but there was no place for urban women to buy them,” said Dino Valentino, vice president of marketing for Rene of Paris, whose ponytail-type hair extension is attached to a French barrette. Rene of Paris has been selling its product in Eckerd Drug, Longs Drug Stores, Arbor Drugs and Vicks Drug since September.Initial sales have been so strong that Valentino expects hair extensions to become a booming category for drug stores. “We feel the potential at retail is $1 billion,” he said. In April, the company will offer a new stand-alone version (not attached to a barrette) designed to be used as hair filler or attached with a bobby pin.

SWEE JOO BERHAD is an investment holding company that is involved, via its subsidiaries, in shipping and shipping-related services, haulage, distribution, warehousing, container handling and repairs. It is one of the pioneer shipping owners and operators for container shipping services in East Malaysia. Originally incorporated over 20 years ago as Johan Shipping Sdn Bhd (Johan Shipping), the company was founded by four vastly experienced parties in the shipping industry. The Sim family has been involved in shipping for over 60 years, venturing into Sarawak coastal shipping in the 1940s with just one vessel through a company called Chop Sim Swee Joo. This company grew in tandem with the growing trade in the shipping industry, leading to the incorporation of Sim Swee Joo Shipping Sdn Bhd in 1978. The Jugah family first ventured into shipping in 1980 via their investment in Sim Swee Joo Shipping. Two years later, this same investment catalysed their co-founding of Johan Shipping; subsequently, the family has increased and maintained its investment in the company. Lo Ping Yiu brings with him over two decades of experience in the shipping industry that began with his fathers shipping business in Hong Kong. He came to Johan via a stint in Singapore in the late 1970s during which he set up his own shipping business.

Rough Notes is a trade publication providing coverage and analysis of the risk and insurance industries.
ANY effort of the Ohio State Automobile Association, or automobile clubs in any city of Ohio, should be thought of in a very distinct and separate way from any Efforts of certain individuals in Ohio^connected with the Ohio State Automobile Association or automobile clubs in cities. They are two distinct and separate thoughts of activities. At various times during the last fifteen or twenty years, individuals connected with the Ohio State Automobile Association and with some local automobile clubs have conceived and launched the idea that it would be a good thing for the clubs to get into the insurance agency business. Events as they have taken place in Ohio have shown that it was not so much the clubs that wanted to get into the agency business, but it was rather a concept of individuals connected with the clubs who thought there was an opportunity to make some money as insurance agents writing insurance for the members of their respective clubs. As far back as almost twenty years ago the Cleveland Automobile Club, and more particularly Mr. Caley, then and now the wonderful secretary of the Cleveland Club, essayed to get in the agency business to wtite insurance for members of the club. Strenuous objections were filed in the insurance department of the state of Ohio protesting against the Cleveland club and Mr. Caley getting into the insurance agency business. The insurance department of the state of Ohio, listening to those objections, concluded that the Cleveland Automobile Club and secretary Caley were not in good faith undertaking to establish themselves in the insurance agency business, and the insurance department of the state of Ohio promptly put a quietus on those endeavors. As time rolled around, the Cleveland Automobile Club and Mr. Caley, its secretary, realized the fallacy of their undertaking, and not only acquiesced then, but have always since maintained to the idea that automobile clubs and their secretaries should not be engaged in the insurance agency business.

[ILLUSTRATIONS OMITTED] What started with a lemon turned out to be a large success. When Frank Spain acquired his first antique car in 1974, he ended up investing more in the car than the amount it was worth restored, but it served as the invaluable inspiration for the Tupelo Automobile Museum. Spain and his good friend Max Berryhill spent years researching, finding, and acquiring nearly 150 rare automobiles that would become part of the museum, which opened in 2002. Named the official State of Mississippi Automobile Museum in the spring of 2003, the Tupelo Automobile Museum boasts more than 120,000 square feet of automobile displays and is one of the largest automobile museums in North America. “You dont have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy the unique cars, oldies music, and the special exhibits at the Tupelo Automobile Museum,” explains marketing director Cindy Hale. The entire collection is valued at more than $6 million and is home to more than 100 cars that illustrate a century of progress and development in automobile design. The exhibit encompasses automobiles from an 1886 Benz to a never-driven 1994 Dodge Viper and nearly everything in between, like a rare Tucker, Liberaces Barrister Corvette, Hispano Suizas, a Duesenberg, and movie and celebrity-owned vehicles–to name a few.

Repeated evidence shows instruction by a registered dietitian (RD) is an effective weight loss strategy for various populations, different disease conditions, and in multiple settings. To determine how weight loss success due to an RD-led intervention compared with frequent weight monitoring, researchers examined a weight loss program that included RD-led weight-loss classes and frequent weigh-in visits. Investigators evaluated weight loss on a continuous scale based on attendance of both RD-led weight-loss classes and weigh-in visits that did not include RD interaction. They examined the relative strength of each of these factors on weight-loss success in a population recruited from the surrounding community for a hypocaloric weight-loss study. Eight of the participants for the hypocaloric weight loss intervention had type 1 diabetes mellitus, a condition that makes successful, safe weight loss especially difficult. The study subjects were overweight (BMI > 27.0) men (n=10) and women (n=16). At baseline the mean BMI was 33.2 to 3.67 and age was 43+12 years. Subjects with type 1 diabetes had mean baseline hemoglobin Ale (HbAlc) of 7.2% [+ or -] 1.0%. The energy prescription was determined as a 750-kcal deficit from estimated total energy expenditure. Subjects then participated in the 11-week weight-loss phase composed of 33 visits, including 11 weekly 1-hour RD-led weight loss classes and 22 semiweekly non-RD-related weigh-in visits. Weight loss (%) was evaluated on a continuous scale based on percent of RD and non-RD visits attended. Subjects with type 1 diabetes were asked to provide blood glucose records weekly and HbAlc was measured on the fist and last study visits. The 26 subjects completed the weight-loss program with an average weight loss of 3.8 [+ or -] 2.8 kg (P<0.001). There were no significant differences between sex or diabetes status in relation to weight loss, RD visit attendance, or non-RD weigh-in visit attendance. Among the subjects with type 1 diabetes, Hbalc was not statistically significantly different pre- versus post-weight loss. Weight loss (%) was significantly correlated with attendance of RD-led weight loss classes (r=0.451, P=0.021) but not weigh-in visit attendance that did not include RD-led weight loss classes (r=0.329,P=0.101). Frequent dietary instruction by an RD conveying topics related to weight loss was more effective than frequent weigh-in visits alone in promoting weight reduction in this study.
To determine how weight loss success due to an RD-led intervention compared with frequent weight monitoring, the researchers examined a weight loss program that included RD-led weight-loss classes and frequent weigh-in visits. They evaluated weight loss on a continuous scale based on attendance of both RD-led weight-loss classes and weigh-in visits that did not include RD interaction. Therefore, they thought it important to include these subjects in the analysis, and examined whether attendance and weight loss differed from the nondiabetic group. Participants were subjects involved in a larger, yet unpublished clinical weight-loss study. As determined a priori, potential participants in this substudy were the first consecutive 28 subjects enrolled in the larger study. From this group of 28 subjects, two individuals were excluded before analysis. The study subjects were overweight (BMI [calculated as kg/[m.sup.2]] >27.0) men (n= 10) and women (n= 16), some of whom had type 1 diabetes (n=8), recruited to participate in an 11-week weight-loss study at the General Clinical Research Center of the University of Minnesota. At baseline the mean BMI was 33.2 [+ or -] 3.67 and age was 43 [+ or -] 12 years. Subjects with type 1 diabetes had a mean baseline hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) of 7.2% [+ or -] 1.0%. Volunteers interested in weight loss attended an initial screening visit to determine height, weight, and BMI. Dietary intake and physical activity estimates were made by an RD interview and a clinical assessment of the information was used to estimate energy needs. Total energy expenditure was estimated as the calculated basal energy expenditure adjusted for reported activity and dietary intake. Class attendance and weigh-in compliance were strongly encouraged but not mandatory. Attendance for each class and weigh-in visit was documented. The RDs developed and implemented an 11-week weight management intervention program. The first class included one-on-one instruction with individualized guidelines for the energy-restricted diet, menu plans, and recommendations for increased physical activity levels. The additional 10 weight-loss classes were designed for a small group setting and covered a number of relevant topics related to short-term and long-term weight loss.
